At the altar…

Lisa and Patsy - great time of WM training at P31

God showed up in a big way at the Proverbs 31 conference.  On the final meeting of  She Speaks, Renee Swope invited us to make our way to a cross to pick up a card which read,  “Many are the plans in a man’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.” Proverbs 19:2

Today, the Lord continued to deal with my heart.  I visited one of my favorite spots …LU Prayer Chapel.  I was alone at the altar – and found rest in my Bible and with Jesus.  The words “obedience” and “surrender” are the words the Holy Spirit has whispered to my heart since Lysa Terkeurst’s opening message.  This morning, I reviewed the words to the old hymn “Trust and Obey.”

When we walk with the Lord
In the Light of His Word
What a glory He sheds on our way!
Let us do His good will;
He abides with us still,
And with all who will trust and obey.”

The next verse got me …

“But we never can prove
The delights of His love
Until all on the altar we lay
For the favor He shows a
And the joy He bestows
Are for them who will trust and obey.

Trust and obey for there is no other way – to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.”

Jesus, help me surrender all to You … I so want my plans to line up with Your purposes. I love you.  Thank you for inviting me to the altar again.

  1. Sometimes those old hymns speak volumes, don’t they? Surrender and obedience aren’t words that come easily today. I suspect they never have. Thanks for your encouragement, by example.

thanks, Cheryl. I liked your farm basket pic today :0) I’m from a really small town…and the statement is true.

  3. This is the same thing the Holy Spirit has been speaking to me. Even more poignantly, obediance is taking a risk in faith and what has been whispered into my spirit is that my ‘confirmation’ or ‘evidence’ comes after my obediance. Thanks for sharing your heart!

  4. I appreciate the thoughtfulness of this post. I wish I could have attended the She Speaks conference… sounds like such a blessing. I’ve seen several comments about it on other blogs I visited today. Obedience and surrender are key… and it’s a daily thing. I once heard someone say that Mary (mother of Jesus) had a “long obedience in the same direction.” It’s definitely not once and done, but an ongoing process. I am still learning and growing, and thankful that as many times as I fail He desires that of me.

    Blessings,
    Christi

  5. * tears * What a beautiful post. I remember standing by my mom as a kid, belting out that song with her. It is one of the foundational songs of my faith walk. I’m sorry I didn’t get to see more of you at the conference. Maybe next year.

  6. Hi Lisa,
We had a (brief!) breakfast together Sunday morning at She Speaks. SO glad I found your blog!

Beautiful post….I love that song, and it’s so true. I’m still in digest-mode from all that happened at the conference, and all God spoke to my heart.

  7. What a beautiful post. Thank you for sharing so transparently and personally the ways God met you and spoke to your heart at She Speaks.

Pressing in to receive the gift of His rest and grace!
    Renee
