Flannelgraph and Manger Stories

My Aunt Jane just made a quick visit to Mama and Daddy’s and brought us one of her famous caramel cakes to share on Christmas Eve. Aunt Jane was my Sunday School teacher for many years at Central Baptist Church in Dixon’s Mills, Alabama. She made the Bible come alive in a dramatic telling of the Scriptures. Aunt Jane would hold her Bible in her hand and would take flannelgraph characters out of the folded pages one at a time.  She carefully placed each one on the board behind her. Christmas was a special time when Aunt Jane told us of of how the Savior came to earth as a baby. It was in her class that I understood – I needed a Savior. The manger story jumped off the pages and into my heart.  I’m so thankful for my sweet Aunt who faithfully taught me and many others about Jesus. Did you have a favorite Sunday school teacher?  What made them special? God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son …

Gifts Money Can’t Buy: Peace

“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” – Isaiah 9:6 “So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. 17 When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, 18 and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. 19 But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. 20 The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told.” – Luke 2:16-19 Thank you, Father for sending your son – Jesus.   Thank you that He was willing to give His life save us from our sins.
