Under Construction

In repentance and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength…Is 30:15 I was living with no margin.  Julie and I were returning from  Guatemala with a late flight to Roanoke, VA.    We were due in Charlotte, NC the next morning for the opening session of the 2013 She Speaks Conference.  There we were:  tired, worn out, and long road trip ahead of us. Strong coffee, sour gummy worms, and Billy Joel were keeping us awake. At 1:30 a.m. – we hit an area of the interstate “under construction.”  Signs diverted us from the main highway onto a back-road detour. Tired and Lost Do you ever feel like you are living in a construction zone? Maybe on a detour?  Eventually, we made it back to the Interstate and on to an amazing conference with a great group of friends and talented leaders. Our experience reminded me how we can easily find ourselves on a detour spiritually: distracted, busy, hurried, and tired.  Fear and doubt can wash over us in an instant. …

We took the challenge… Will You?

The forty-day prayer challenge is going to change your life. In fact, the next forty days have the potential to dramatically alter the rest of your life. Mark Batterson’s book, Draw the Circle: 40 Day Prayer Challenge, is a follow up to his book to The Circle Maker.  The 40 day prayer challenge invites the reader to experience the power of bold faith and prayer.  The first week of summer I drove to Alabama and listened to The Circle Maker on audible.  I loved the encouragement to pray persistently, confidently, and expectantly.   So many of the stories reminded me of times I had heard Dr. Falwell share stories of walking and praying over the mountain that would become Liberty University. Five of my friends decided to take the 40 day challenge together.  Everyday we read the challenges and texted our prayers trusting God to work in each of our “prayer circles”.  We all had specific things we were committing to God. Do you ever feel like God is trying to teach you something?
